Simple, free image editor based on GIMP

GIMP is one of the best free photo editors out there but its not to everyone's liking. That's why SeaShore has been developed as a simpler, easier to use photo editor.

SeaShore is an open source image editor based on GIMP. It features gradients, textures and anti-aliasing for both text and brush strokes. It also supports multiple layers, alpha channel editing and uses the same native file format as GIMP. And due to Cocoa, it sports a much slicker OS X friendly user interface that definitely looks better than GIMP.

The beauty of SeaShore is that it's a lot simpler than GIMP and feels a bit closer to Photoshop in the way the menus are laid out. The downside of this, however, is that it's not as powerful as GIMP and lacks certain advanced editing features. In fact, even basic features such as Color Balance and Levels are missing from SeaShore. Stability can also occasionally be an issue but it usually manages to carry out most functions without any problems.

A slick OS X Cocoa style interface and a simpler GIMP style functionality will make SeaShore popular with anyone who has struggled with GIMP.

  • Pros

    • Simpler to use than GIMP
    • OS X style interface
  • Cons

    • Lacks functionality of GIMP
    • May be prone to instability

User reviews about SeaShore

Bad.. Awful. Literally terrible. The crop functions are so complex it'll take you hours to figure it out. All of the simplest things you need in a photo editor are made incredibly difficult, and not because they have more detailed functions.

Slightly odd GUI; no marching ants; primitive color selection. Just downloaded this AM (Feb 19 2012). Tried area selection, color selection, other image fiddling. See pros and cons below. I'm used to Photoshop, Pixelmator, PaintshopPro, and GIMP. This was alien to all and would take a learning curve. Pros: Somewhat good documentation. Somewhat good toolset. Nice "united" interface (cf gimp's floating windows). Cons: Limited colors: no RGB or hex selection. No "select none" after selection. No "magnetic lasso". No "marching ants". Crop tool not immediately obvious. Ruler not immediately obvious.

Clean

It’s extremely likely that this software program is clean.

What does this mean?

We have scanned the file and URLs associated with this software program in more than 50 of the world's leading antivirus services; no possible threat has been detected.

Warning

This software program is potentially malicious or may contain unwanted bundled software.

Why is the software program still available?

Based on our scan system, we have determined that these flags are possibly false positives.

What is a false positive?

It means a benign program is wrongfully flagged as malicious due to an overly broad detection signature or algorithm used in an antivirus program.
